Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Therapy
In the early 1930’s Dr Emil Vodder created a unique series of light massage-like movements, that included massaging lightly over the cervical lymph nodes, and found that they “cured” a range of problems. By the 1950’s he and his wife Estrid were educating the European world on lymphology and teaching MLD. They called upon their friend Gunther Wittlinger to continue educating the world on the lymphatic system and the benefits of MLD. Gunther and his wife Hildegaard continued to treat and educate. Hildegard and her family continue to run the Vodder school, treating clients with lymphoedema and training MLD therapists around the world.
Manual lymphatic drainage therapy is a very gentle and effective massage that stimulates the lymphatic system (the body’s plumbing system). It is a rhythmical and deeply relaxing massage, where the skin is methodically stretched towards directions of lymphatic flow. This treats fluid retention and oedema while supporting the immune system and cellular detoxification.
The lymphatic system has a vital role in the body as part of the immune system, which protects the body against infection and the development of cancer. It transports nutrients to cells and eliminates metabolic wastes, toxins and excess fluid from the body. When the lymphatic system becomes blocked, lymphatic fluid builds up and stagnates, causing the entire system to become toxic. MLD massage helps clear blockages, eliminate excess fluid, metabolic wastes and toxins from the body. It also transports nutrients to cells and increases metabolic efficiency. This all adds up to the reduction of excess fluid and assists in weight reduction.

This treatment uses a combination of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Acupressure and Reflexology techniques.
The Swedish element of the treatment uses strokes, motions and pressure in the direction of blood flow into your heart. By using cross-fiber friction your therapist is able to break up any muscle knots you may have. The Deep Tissue element will focus on realigning deeper layers of muscle and tissue, helping to ease any aches or pains, stiff neck and back or tightness in your legs. The Reflexology element of the treatment is deeply relaxing and therapeutic, achieved by applying gentle but firm pressure to acupressure points, mainly in the feet.
