HyperhydrosisIt is sometimes said that men perspire and ladies glow but for many, males or females, excess sweating is a medical condition which has in the past been difficult to control. Approximately 2-3% of the population suffers from excess sweating known as Hyperhydrosis. Usually localised under the arms, palms or soles this disorder is unfortunately socially debilitating to the sufferer. Botox was approved in Canada for under arm Hyperhidrosis in 2001. Botox is injected just under the skin to block the release of acetylcholine, which activates the sweat glands. Botox for Hyperhydrosis is usually effective for 6-8 months, and the cost is usually covered by most private insurance plans. The use of local anaesthetic minimises the discomfort of the injections. Botox is also available on prescription from your GP if you suffer from hyperhidrosis.
